A Chair for Mr. Bear

I have been leading this activity for approximately 20 years with both students, and educators, and it is timeless. This activity incorporates cooperative learning, the engineering process and lots of fun. Participants are asked to build a chair for Mr. Bear. They may only use cardboard, duct tape, other household items and/or Legos. The original version was designed for Legos but I have found over the years it works well with household items as well. Click here for the lesson plan.  I was introduced to this activity by Meredith Portsmore, who is now the Director for Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach, an outstanding resource for STEM integration K-12. Be sure to check out their amazing resources.Click here to learn more and access lesson.
